THE ALLIANCE AGAINST DISEASES OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM

About one in four people in Germany are affected by at least one psychiatric or neurological disorder. This puts an enormous burden on our country: the economy and the health care system, the patients and their families.

As an umbrella organisation, the German Brain Council combines the expertise of specialists in diseases of the brain and central nervous system.

The German Brain Council develops solutions for the healthy future of the brain.

Wer ist im German Brain Council organisiert?

  • Mitglieder im „Deutschen Gehirnrat“ können wissenschaftliche Fachgesellschaften und Patientenorganisationen sowie andere nicht-kommerzielle Unternehmungen werden.
  • Sie müssen auf dem Gebiet der Erforschung, Prävention, Diagnostik und Behandlung sowie Rehabilitation und Nachsorge von menschlichen Erkrankungen des Nervensystems tätig sein.
  • Unternehmen können nicht Mitglied werden, aber als Partner mit dem GBC zusammenarbeiten.
  • Das German Brain Council ist deutscher Partner des europäischen Netzwerkes European Brain Council (EBC)

Who contributes to the German Brain Council?

  • Scientific associations, patient organisations and other non-profit organisations can all become members of the German Brain Council
  • They must be active in the fields of research, prevention, diagnostics and treatment, as well as rehabilitation and aftercare of human diseases of the central nervous system
  • Companies may not become members but can collaborate with the GBC as partners
  • The German Brain Council is the German partner of the European network of the European Brain Council (EBC)

Welche Ziele verfolgt das German Brain Council?

  • Das GBC ist ein gemeinnütziger Verein.
  • Es fördert als Allianz einschlägiger Expertenorganisationen Wissenschaft und Forschung, die sich mit den Erkrankungen des menschlichen Nervensystems beschäftigt – gleichermaßen Grundlagenforschung wie angewandte klinische Forschung.
  • Darüber hinaus bündelt das GBC als Dachorganisation das aktuelle Wissen auf dem Gebiet des menschlichen Nervensystems und berät bei gesellschaftlichen, politischen und wissenschaftlichen Fragen, sowohl in Deutschland als auch auf europäischer Ebene.
  • Ein wichtiges langfristiges Ziel ist ein Nationaler Plan für Erkrankungen des Gehirns für Deutschland.

What are the objectives of the German Brain Council?

  • The GBC is a non-profit organisation
  • As an alliance of relevant expert organisations, it promotes science and research dealing with diseases of the human nervous system – basic research and applied, clinical research in equal measure
  • Moreover, as an umbrella organisation, the GBC brings together the latest knowledge on the human nervous system and gives advice on social, political and scientific questions, both on a German and a European level
  • An important long-term goal is the creation of a National Plan for Diseases of the Brain in Germany, which aims to become part of a European Brain Plan

What does the German Brain Council do?
